Why Circular Retail Is Guiltless Shopping

Manymoons Clothing For Mom and Baby

In a time of fast fashion retail circularity has emerged, but what is it?

Imagine buying or renting ethically produced clothing made from natural regenerative materials like organic cotton. When you are done wearing it, you can return the clothes to the retailer. They are inspected, cleaned, reshared, or composted. Nothing goes to waste, the garments are made entirely from high quality durable materials.

Manymoons is a circularity retail company that does exactly that.

I recently interviewed Carolyn Butler, CEO and co-founder of Manymoons, America's First Circular Retailer. Carolyn is a mom and a chemical engineer. She said her "aha" moment to start a company with her co-founder/husband Rich Amsinger came after her daughter was born.

"I had thrifted before for clothing, but with a baby, parents are swimming in “stuff,”  without a really efficient means to purchase or re-use in a way that was clean, quality-first and sustainableI saw the application of circularity – the concept of re-use in particular – as an opportunity to create  a new level of sustainability and consumer participation in the retail world."

So Carolyn and her husband launched Manymoons a Certified B Corp and it was trademarked as America’s First Circular Retailer™.

"Baby clothes were perfect for proving that the circular model would work, as they grow out of clothes so quickly."

How does Circularity work?

Carolyn explained how circularity is sustainable. "Our circular retail encourages customers to participate  through purchasing Rescue and Resale items, and getting Give Back credits for items they return."

Retail Circularity is the Antithesis to Fast Fashion Companies Like Shein

According to Carolyn, "Earth.org estimates that Americans are discarding 81 lbs of apparel, per person, per year. Garments are worn an average of 7 - 10 times before being discarded, down 36% from fifteen years ago."

If you ever felt like your carbon footprint was too big, retail circularity might be the solution. "Manymoons is part of a movement to increase the amount of wear we get from each garment, which can have a big impact on waste," said Carolyn.

Manymoons also sells women's clothing and beauty products. We ordered two items from Manymoons to see how easy the process was from start to finish.

We ordered the Dakar Jumpsuit for women, and the Lottie Suit for a 3-6 month old.

Both items were soft and new, and the styles were simple and tasteful. We love the Dakar Jumpsuit for it's comfort and versatility, basically you can dress it up or dress it down. The onesie speaks for itself!
