There's A Volcano In San Diego?
Relax, Mount Calavera in Carlsbad last erupted twenty-two million years ago! Nowadays, only the plug remains, but it's still pretty spectacular when you think about it.
Mount Calavera is a popular destination for hiking, biking, dog walking and trail running.
The volcano was active 15 million years ago! Calavera also has a lake and dam dating back to the World War II era, stone labyrinths and at one time a cave (the cave was recently collapsed by the city).
Spring is a great time to hike, so with dog and kid in tow off we went exploring, getting some much needed outdoor exercise and vitamin D. It beats the treadmill any day of the week.
Got Nature?
The floral color palette at Mount Calavera was a visual feast. You just feel good looking at wildflowers in an array of hues, and feeling the sun on your skin. If screen time is a mood downer, this is certainly a mood lifter! We enjoyed our time at Calavera.
