2 Pianos 4 Hands At The North Coast Rep Theater is a phenomenal show that excavates the love hate relationship artists have with their craft. In this case, two actors play multiple roles of teacher, student, and parent all while playing the piano. The music is flawIess from Bach to Billy Joel. Actors Jefferson McDonald and Matthew McGloin play the piano while switching characters and settings in a flash.

I saw this show with my thirteen year old son, an aspiring musician and artist. *2 Pianos 4 Hands is not a play for young children. I would highly recommend this show for tweens and up. If you ever studied music, or enrolled a child in music lessons this play is highly relatable. Dare I say we laughed, we cried, we heard ourselves in the many voices portrayed by the actors.

What does it take to be a solo pianist? How many hours should you practice? Is it worth the investment? Will you ever use this skill, or is it a dying art form? The characters tackle these questions like Greek philosophers, and study classical music history and theory like Olympic hopefuls. Are you willing to sacrifice your childhood for a mere chance of being a professional musician? Do you need an education if Julliard will accept you just based on musical talent alone?

2 Pianos 4 Hands is brilliantly written by Ted Dykstra and Richard Greenblatt. The writing is on point, from pushy parents, to eccentric music teachers you will be amazed by how this play resonates with you while laughing out loud.

Don't miss 2 Pianos 4 Hands! This show is now playing at The North Coast Rep Theater until December 31, 2023.
