We Test Drove The Perfect Mother's Day Weekend Last Sunday
We started off with a trip to the San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas, followed by a stroll through The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch.
We walked through thirty-seven acres at San Diego Botanic Garden. There are twenty-nine gardens, and 5300+ plant species and varieties, representing 15 regions of the world at SDBG.
We visited this urban oasis on several occasions, and we never tire of it. The San Diego Botanic Garden has magnificent Spring blooms, and festive holiday nights in the wintertime when it transforms with thousands of twinkling lights. No matter what the season, it's simply breathtaking!
My favorite part is hiking to the tropical rainforest and waterfall! On a warm sunny day you can sit on one of their many benches and enjoy the shade of bamboo and palm trees. I also love seeing plant varieties from countries like South Africa and Mexico.
The San Diego Botanic Garden is a great place to spend the day for visitors of all ages. There are three children's gardens. One is close to the entrance with a treehouse! Toni's Treehouse is one of the largest treehouses I've ever seen. When my son was little he truly enjoyed getting lost in it.
This month SDBG has an array of events from a Natural Tie Dye Workshop to the ins and outs of Worm Composting to a Houseplant Kokedama Making Workshop.
In honor of Mother's day, San Diego Botanic Garden is also running a special promotion between now and May 15: those who purchase a gift membership will receive two extra guest passes to enjoy the Garden together or as a family. Additionally, on Mother’s Day (Sunday, May 14), all current, new or renewing Member mothers will receive a free succulent plant from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., while supplies last with the presentation of their digital or physical Member card. New and renewing Moms can also spin SDBG's prize wheel for exciting prize opportunities – from garden seeds to guest passes!
Open six days a week, 9 am – 5 pm (last ticket entry at 4 pm). Closed Tuesdays. Tickets $18 for adults, $10 for kids 3-17, children under 3 are free.

Our next stop was The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch which has 55-acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers in a beautiful diverse color palette. It's our family tradition to visit the fields annually. The flowers are in bloom for approximately six to eight weeks each year – from early March through early May. This year the season has been extended to May 21st so don't miss out on this amazing wonder. It is a great way to usher in Spring. You can take a wagon ride through the fields if you don't feel like walking. There's live music, gift shops, a children's playground, and activities for kids like panning for gold and gems.
