Get Kids Moving With Dance!

The Beat Goes On During The Pachindemic

By Courtney Daly-Pavone February 26, 2021

According to the CDC "Children ages 6 through 17 years should do 60 minutes or more of moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity each day, including daily aerobic – and activities that strengthen bones."

I can tell you that during the pandemic, my child isn't reaching that mark, and that's something we have to remedy.

My friend Kathryn the Grape is a singer, songwriter, author, mom, and an optimist! She has a new album for children titled All Together. Kathryn sings about feelings kids might be experiencing during the pandemic. My child loves Kathryn's music still to this day because she talks about things that effect children on their level. Her books and lyrics are highly relatable to young audiences. Her songs and books include daily affirmations, mindfulness tools children can use to work through obstacles.

Dance With Kathryn!

Realizing the lack of movement in kids lives these days, Kathryn the Grape created this great dance break video for kids called Shake Shake Shake. It's free and accessible on Youtube.

If you're kids are zoomed out, now is the time to get fresh air, dance, listen to uplifting music. We're at the tail end of the pandemic. More Americans are getting vaccinated. Keep your kids spirits high with music, and positive messaging, and continue to practice mitigation (hand washing, mask wearing etc.).

The Beat Goes On

I Love Ballet Tiktoks! While I normally dismiss platforms like TikTok, during Covid it's been a great way for kids to practice their art anywhere, be seen by millions, learn, grow, express themselves, find common ground. There is always hope when there is art!

Do you exercise as a family? We enjoy bike rides and hikes. Don't you always feel better after exercising? Spring is almost here. It's the most glorious time of the year in San Diego. Get moving!
