We Went Back To The Birch

Read Our Review

By Courtney Daly-Pavone September 23, 2020

Life has changed because of Covid-19, but thankfully museums and aquariums are slowly reopening. We didn't know what to expect when The Birch Aquarium opened after 6 months of being closed, but we were pleasantly surprised.

What We Loved-We Had The Aquarium To Ourselves!

Reservations are required before visiting the Birch. This helps insure that a limited number of people visit the aquarium. It was nice to be able to take your time and read about sea life without being rushed along due to crowds. We actually got more out of the experience than we normally would.

One On One Marine Animal Encounters!

Tide Pool Plaza is open, but it's a different experience. Guests are asked to wash their hands first, then wait on a short line and they can have animal encounters with swell sharks, sea urchins, sea cucumbers and more! My child loved touching the marine animals. Sensory education is highly stimulating and it enhances children's learning. I'm a big fan of bringing learning to life, and this is an excellent example of it.

New Safety Measures!

You are required to answer a few health questions before entering the aquarium. Masks and reservations are required, there is a hand washing station, bubbles and arrows are on the floor to remind patrons to follow social distancing rules. We felt reassured by the new measures, and quickly immersed ourselves with the familiar animals in the aquarium.

Big Thumbs Up!

We have been to the Birch several times and it's always a pleasant experience, but we love the Birch even more! We have been sequestered for half a year, and I can't tell you how therapeutic it was to get out of the house, learn something new at the aquarium, and see marine life. According to one of the Birch docents, the sea animals missed the visitors too!
