Surprising Generosity

You need to be informed in a pandemic, but not obsessed with a 24 hour news cycle. Your family needs you, and you need to unplug. Ironically, during my news viewing I stumbled across some uplifting stories of people helping those in need during the crisis.

World renowned chef and humanitarian José Andrés is partnering with Chicago chef Lamar Moore and Fifty/50 Restaurant Group to provide meals to hospital workers in Chicago. The effort not only feeds health care workers, but it also gives Fifty/50, the owners of restaurants like Roots Handmade Pizza, Portsmith, and Utopian Tailgate, a chance to employ workers the company furloughed.

Tyler Perry paid grocery bills for elderly citizens at 73 supermarkets in Atlanta and New Orleans.

Author Roxane Gay donated $100 to 20 people facing hardship due to the pandemic.
