My Cheap-and-Easy Pea Soup Recipe

I haven't been to a supermarket in weeks. I used to go three times a week. I would make the trip to buy a week's worth of groceries, three days later I would crave something special for dinner, go back again, and leave with more items than I intended to buy and so on. Sound familiar? Well those days are gone! 


Now my pantry is stocked. This meal costs less than a can of soup! Here's the recipe enjoy!

Here's what you'll need:

1 can of chicken broth

1 onion, or 3 cloves of garlic 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper. 

1/2 teaspoon salt.

2 carrots.

1 celery stalk.

1 package of green split peas, or 2 ¼ cups dried split peas.

6 cups of cold water.

*Optional 1 1/2 pounds of ham bone

*Optional 2 bay leaves.

Step 1

Finely chop carrots, celery and onion.

Step 2

Place all contents in slow cooker and set it on high for 6 hours.

Step 3

Place soup in bowl, and drizzle with olive oil garnish as you wish!

310 calories; 1 g total fat; 0 mg cholesterol; 255 mg sodium. 57.9 g carbohydrates; 19.7 g protein. Makes 12 servings, plenty of left over soup to freeze!
