Go Whale Watching with Birch Aquarium Naturalists On Flagship Cruises!

By Courtney Daly-Pavone February 3, 2020

Do you want to have a fun day on the water experiencing nature?

We booked a whale watching cruise aboard Flagship Cruises! This unique whale watching adventure has naturalists from The Birch Aquarium on board to teach you everything you need to know about gray whales and marine animals living and migrating in our ocean. I can't tell you how much my family enjoyed this experience.

Did we see whales?

YES we saw three gray whales blow, but even more magnificent, was saw over forty dolphins following our boat. They were pacific white sided dolphins and a pod of common dolphins. The entire ship was mesmerized by their beauty, speed, agility and grace in their natural setting. I had never seen so many at once, and it was a reminder of how beautiful, precious, and delicate our planet really is. A lesson for passengers young and old.

The naturalists on board showed us samples of:  baleen, whale lice, a whale fin bone, and were readily available to answer all of our questions.

A replica of The San SalvadorJuan Cabrillo's Ship cruised by us taking us back in time to the discovery of San Diego. We passed Ballast Point where the explorers vessel docked, and were transported back in time. It was a reminder of what makes this city so special, witnessing the old and the new intermingling and doing a dance!

Twice-daily tours with Flagship Cruises & Events feature Birch Aquarium Naturalists!

San Diego ranks among the world's most incredible places for viewing marine wildlife. Between December and April, more than 20,000 gray whales migrate along our coast. For the thrill of a lifetime, cruise alongside these magnificent whales in their natural environment with Flagship Cruises, San Diego's most experienced whale watching company.
