PaintBox Art Studio in Mission Hills is a hidden treasure. We have sampled children's art classes around San Diego. While many have qualified instructors, PaintBox offers art lessons in a nurturing environment.
My son dropped in on a half day from school to sample a mixed media art class. As we entered PaintBox, we saw gleeful children leaving the studio holding Halloween costumes they had designed and sewn. My jaw dropped at their professional looking costumes!

What Makes PaintBox Unique?
According to owner Jaimee Brant, "I think the biggest thing that distinguishes our class from other schools is that we give the kids a lot of autonomy in their projects. We are big on allowing them to choose their own projects and materials which in turn gives them a huge boost of self confidence and excitement to work on the project. If they need us we are here to guide them."
That recipe works, as I bared witness to countless students creating, sharing ideas and enthusiasm. My own child told me, "Mom I'm having so much fun!" He created Halloween decor that we agreed was better than Party City's decorations. It was truly a fun afternoon!
What are kids learning in these classes?
Art skills, socialization, math, public speaking, and team work, but if you ask them they are just having fun!
The PaintBox Art Studio offers classes in art and sewing, has an array of courses, and school break camps. We highly recommend PaintBox for your aspiring artist, or even a kid that always wanted to try an art class or art camp. It's a great studio, with wonderful instructors in a non-pressure environment.
