Let me start by saying that my child has gone to a number of swimming schools. The YMCA, The Kroc Center, and private lessons, but Waterworks Swim School in Poway is in a class by itself. They offer private and semi-private lessons, and the difference is huge. Their one on one instruction begins with a thorough assessment of your child's skills. Immediately, children work on the areas where they need help, learning the proper techniques, while gaining confidence, and improving as a swimmer.
We were very impressed with my child's instructor Crystal. She immediately built a rapport with my son, and was by his side the entire lesson. My child can swim, but he needs to work on his strokes. He lacks confidence when floating on his back. Immediately the instructor honed in on those gaps, and went to work, all while making the class seem light and fun. Each lesson is twenty minutes long, perfect for short attention spans. Instruction is taught in an indoor lap pool that is 25 yards in length and heated to 84 degrees year-round.
I witnessed other swim lessons in progress, and each instructor was warm and attentive with their students. Children seemed happy to attend their swimming lessons, absent were the tears you sometimes see with small children when entering a pool for a lesson. Instruction is offered to children as young as 2 1/2 years of age.
At Waterworks Swim School, students learn water safety skills that are necessary as well as breath control, buoyancy, and proper stroke technique. Instructors utilize specialized muscle memory technique, which allows each student to progress at a much faster rate.
While the gym is spectacular, you do not have to be a member of LA Fitness to enroll in Waterworks Swim School. There is also plenty of parking on the premises.
