Cirque du Soleil Volta Zooms Into San Diego

Feast Your Eyes on This Epic New Show!

By Courtney Daly-Pavone April 4, 2019

Cirque du Soleil surprises audiences consistently, taking you beyond your wildest imagination you just have to trust the performers and let go!

That's the best way I can describe a Cirque du Soleil show experience-You just have to see it! Volta, is like an electric current through your body, hence its name. With my eight-year-old son as my plus one, we took in this latest Cirque du Soleil show at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Volta is about a young boy with blue hair, a misfit who reminisces about happier times on his BMX bike. His dreams, and imagination come to life when musicians, dancers, acrobats, and yes stunt cyclists appear on stage and blow the audience away in true Cirque fashion by defying gravity.

This is the second Cirque du Soleil show we've seen and we entered the big top expecting to see a mirror version of the amazing performances we had seen at another Cirque show, only to discover that no two Cirque du Soleil shows are alike. Cirque du Soleil distinguishes itself time and time again by pushing the envelope with spectacular stunts, that are choreographed, and executed in sync with the audiences emotions, not an easy feat! Cirque du Soleil takes you there, you just have to be brave enough to follow their lead. It is a pilgrimage audiences never forget.

The highlight for me, was watching a ballerina dance in step with a cyclist dancing on a BMX bike. The cyclist was as graceful as the ballerina. Violinist Camilla Backman played the electric violin and singer Darius Harper sang in harmony in this glorious moment on stage. My son loved it when five cyclists took to the stage and performed acrobatics on BMX bikes. Every second of Volta is charged with energy and intrigue. You don't want the show to end, and like a kid I couldn't wait to dream about the show when I got home, corny perhaps, but that's what dreams are made of!

Volta has something for everyone, it is another gift given to us from the incredibly talented creators of Cirque du Soleil. See this amazing show!
