From Green Eggs and Ham to The Grinch Who Stole ChristmasDr. Seuss is synonymous with being a child, or an adult that's a kid at heart.  Where did the real Dr. Seuss live? In America's Finest City, and no one celebrates this beloved author like San Diego check out these fun ways to celebrate Dr. Seuss's Birthday!

Geisel Library

Dr. Seuss's real name was Theodore Geisel, and it's only fitting that he  would be remembered with a library. This edifice rises from the grounds of the University of California, San Diego, resembling a spaceship. Architect William Pereira designed the Brutalist/Futurist building, which opened in 1970 as the Central Library. It was renamed The Geisel Library in 1995. The Library's celebration of Dr. Seuss' 115th birthday is on Mar. 1st! You can celebrate and explore the Geisel Library, and enjoy free parking on Tuesday's and Thursdays!

The Legends Gallery

In downtown La Jolla, not far from Geisel's home, is one of two local authorized galleries selling Seuss artwork. (The other, Chuck Jones Gallery, is in the Gaslamp Quarter.) There are bronze sculptures, which includes everything from casual sketches to iconic illustrations. The "Wisdom of the Orient Cat," which appeared on the cover of the book, "The Cat Behind the Hat is also on display. All artwork at the gallery is for sale. On the entry wall are resin casts of Geisel's "Unorthodox Taxidermy" series.  Don't forget to see the painting, "I Dreamed I Was a Doorman at the Hotel del Coronado," demonstrating Giesels ties to San Diego.

The Lorax Tree

Take a walk from Legends Gallery to  Ellen Browning Scripps Park, a waterfront spot that's home to a Monterey Cypress tree that, when viewed from certain angles, looks exactly like a Lorax. Geisel's studio faced the park so it's rumored that this tree inspired him to write the famous story.
