Hidden Gems Arrives @ San Diego Natural History Museum

GIA Presents a Birthstone Display as part of Multi-Level Exhibition

Explore the Nat’s new exhibition, Hidden Gems which opens this weekend Nov. 10 in Balboa Park. The exhibition features 10 cases of gorgeous specimens, including one on the main level that was curated by the GIA museum and displays beautiful rough and polished birthstones. Whether you're a geology buff, or a jewelry fanatic there is something for everyone in this dazzling exhibit.

The exhibit layout offers a unique perspective with several cases of gems and minerals displayed on each level of the museum, with objects that cover different themes. The exhibition can be experienced in any order. The dazzling cases reveal more than 100 pieces about fluorescent mineral properties, worldwide phenomena, San Diego County minerals, the value and application of materials, and geological diversity. Large murals and sculptural elements will accompany these pieces. 

Don't Miss Rocking Out! Inspired by Hidden Gems

Rocking Out! Family Day | Sunday, Nov. 18 | 11–3 P.M.

Visitors can perform experiments, learn about different rocks and minerals,

and make a craft to take home.

The exhibition is included with general admission and free for members. Hidden Gems is a long term exhibition

The Nat’s hours are 10 AM to 5 PM (closed Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day)
